South Korean lawmaker Lee Kwang-jae said on Sunday that he has started accepting political donations in cryptocurrencies.
Donors can use virtual currencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Kakao’s KLAY, NEWS and payment-focused Paycoin, and receipts will be issued in the form of NFTs.
It is reported that the first donor is an anonymous professional from the blockchain industry who expressed his support for integrating blockchain technology into politics. Cryptocurrencies have become a campaign issue in South Korea's upcoming March 9 presidential election, with presidential candidates saying they will promote cryptocurrencies and blockchain to influence millennials and Gen Z voters.
