GameStop will build a marketplace for video game NFTs

GameStop is entering the NFT and cryptocurrency market.

GameStop is launching a division to develop an NFT marketplace and forge cryptocurrency partnerships, propelling the company into crypto as it tries to turn around its core video game business, according to people familiar with its plans.

The retailer hired more than 20 people to run the unit, according to people familiar with the matter. The division is building an online hub for buying, selling and trading NFTs for virtual video game merchandise, such as avatar clothing and weapons.

The company is asking selected game developers and publishers to list NFTs on their marketplaces when they launch later this year, the people said. (Wall Street Journal)
