ECB president calls for approval of cryptocurrency regulatory framework to stop Russia from evading sanctions

In an informal meeting of economic and finance ministers on Friday, European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde called on lawmakers to approve a regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies, suggesting the move could prevent Russia from evading economic sanctions.

In response to a question about Russia’s possible use of cryptocurrencies to circumvent some of these measures, Lagarde urged action on existing proposals for a regulatory framework for digital assets.
