Magic Eden, a non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace, has formed the Web3 Games Collective (W3GC) along with leading publishers and communities to drive mass adoption of Web3 gaming. The W3GC is made up of decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) Game7, decentralized guild network Yield Guild Games, and Web3 gaming publisher Fenix Games. The collective aims to simplify the landscape and grow the ecosystem for mass adoption by discovering and accessing Web3 games, "de-risking" the space for investors and developers, and finding and scaling a blockchain "mega-hit" that will bring in new users. Magic Eden's interest in Web3 gaming has been growing, with the company's recent hiring of former Electronic Arts executive Chris Akhavan as its chief gaming officer and investment in 11 Web3 gaming studios. The company also launched "Mint Madness," an initiative to launch a dozen games on three blockchains through March, and Magic Eden Games, a platform aimed at helping game studios connect with players and share game updates. The Web3 Games Collective was unveiled at the annual Game Developers Conference in San Francisco on Friday. The members of the W3GC hope to drive the sector forward, as was seen with PC, console, and mobile games, by emphasizing quality games and intellectual property.
