Elizabeth Wong, head of financial technology at the Hong Kong Securities Regulatory Commission (SFC), said the regulator is now very interested in the tokenization of assets and is open to dialogue with industry participants.“We support tokenization. If you want to tokenize a public fund, we would be happy to discuss it with the industry. Blockchain can increase transparency as well as reduce settlement time, and it can be applied to the tokenization of funds,” stated Wong.According to Wong, the biggest challenge for the SFC is the cybersecurity of the tokens and what safeguards the regulator itself can provide. She also added that the SFC will continually change and evolve its regulatory policies to give retail investors better access to cryptocurrency investments.
